Building a cornerstone for success...
The proposed cornerstone for the modernized and expanded Zoo is a new 3/4 acre, natural Grizzly Exhibit. Visitors to the Zoo have always been enamored and intrigued with the grizzlies. However, their current exhibit has also attracted the most criticism, along with the need for permanent public restrooms. The exhibit is small and antiquated, with concrete floors and heavy metal barriers for the public, which does little to promote natural animal behavior or exciting viewing opportunities for Zoo visitors.
The Zoo's 15 year Master Plan projects a cost of $15-20 million. The first step will be a $700,000 to $800,000 development, dedicated to an exciting new Grizzly Bear Exhibit, with permanent restrooms hopefully adjacent to the site.
The Primary Goal of the Capital Campaign for the Zoo is to create this wonderfully natural bear habitat and management center, where all current and future grizzlies at the Pocatello Zoo, can play and fish in their own trout stream. Design and construction will begin this summer, with the project being completed in phases, as necessary funding becomes available.
The Pocatello Zoological Society has been conducting the campaign to fund this project. Thank you to everyone one who has already so generously contributed. However, additional funding is needed. Through your generous help this dream will become a reality.
If you would like to make a cash contribution, pledge over time, or a "Planned Gift", please contact Scott Ransom, Zoo Director, 208.234.6264 or sransom@pocatello.us . Any donation will be sincerely appreciated.
